It is a such an amazing privilege to serve the students, parents, and community of FAAM.  Each new school year brings great new beginnings for all our #FAAMily!  For teachers and students, it's a time of change and new beginnings...new surroundings, new friends, new experiences, new skills, and new challenges. Please take time to discuss each school day with your child. Ask open-ended questions and offer positive feedback. Review all work brought home and set aside a special place for displaying the work. Your constant interest will play an important part in your child's learning success. I encourage you to become involved with FAAM and your child's education. Take the time to get to know the school and staff by volunteering and becoming a member of the PTA. If you are new to the FAAM family, we extend an extra special welcome. We look forward to working with you and your child.

Vision Statement
Good Character Pledge

I promise that each and every day, I will show my good character at work and at play.

I promise to do what is right and fair, even when nobody else is there.

I will work hard on good character and soon you will see, I have grown up to be the BEST person I can be.

Our Academics

The magnet programs of the Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) offer educational choices for children in kindergarten through the twelfth grade. These specialized programs are designed around themes that focus on the talents and abilities of students. The magnet programs offer expanded educational choices to Montgomery’s youth and invite greater opportunity for personal growth and exploration.
Forest Avenue Academic Magnet (FAAM) was built in the 1920's, with twelve classrooms.  In 2001, thirty new classrooms and state of the art facilities were added with the addition of our new wing.  Annually, there are approximately 750 students in grades K-5 who attend the school.  Admission to Forest Avenue is by application and a selection process.  Any student who lives in Montgomery County may apply to attend our school.  More information and admission requirements are available on the MPS/Magnet Schools website.
Forest Avenue is an academically-accelerated instructional program.  Students work one grade-level ahead in the subject areas of reading, English, spelling, and math.  The science and social studies areas are enriched by numerous field trips, lab experiences, and site visits.  In addition to the 35 classroom teachers, specialists in specific focus areas enhance our program. Students receive instruction in Spanish, computer technology, science lab experiences, counseling and art.  There are also specialists in special education, speech pathology, physical education, and music.  Students experience outdoor learning in our Living Science Lab in the center courtyard of the school.  There are gardens (flower, vegetable and butterfly), a small fishpond, and a turtle habitat.
A vital aspect of our school is the strong parental support we receive from the PTA.   We encourage each family to become involved in the life of your child by supporting activities and events sponsored by PTA.  Forest Avenue PTA is traditionally recognized for 100% membership.  To understand more about how vital the role of the PTA is to FAAM, please visit our "Fundraising" page.
